Tuyen Quang provincial delegation attends the 11th International Conference on UNESCO Global Geoparks in Chile

On September 8 (Vietnam time), the Tuyen Quang provincial delegation, led by Mrs. Vuong Ngoc Ha, Member of the Provincial Party Standing Committee, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee, attended the opening ceremony of the 11th International Conference on UNESCO Global Geoparks at Kutralkura UNESCO Global Geopark, Chile.

The delegation also included leaders of the departments of: Culture, Sports and Tourism; Foreign Affairs; Agriculture and Environment; along with leaders of the Office of the Provincial People’s Committee, the People’s Committee of Dong Van Commune, and the Management Board of the Dong Van Karst Plateau UNESCO Global Geopark.

The conference with the theme: "From the knowledge of ancestors to a sustainable Geopark future", was attended by more than 900 international delegates from 51 countries and territories. At the opening ceremony, leaders of the Caurucaina Region and UNESCO delivered presentations on new development orientations for the Global Geoparks Network, aiming at peace and development with geoparks as the core of the future. As the host of the conference, the Kutralkura UNESCO Global Geopark introduced international delegates to the unique cultural values of the locality through traditional art performances.

Within the framework of the opening ceremony, Mrs. Vuong Ngoc Ha, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee, held discussions and presented souvenirs to members of the Global Geoparks Network Coordination Board and representatives from several partner geoparks of the Dong Van Karst Plateau Geopark, including those from Japan, France, South Korea, Greece, etc.

The conference program will continue in the following days with key activities such as the opening of the Geopark Fair, the “Weaving Hope” initiative exhibition, the Kutralkura Secret Market, thematic sessions, and field excursion.
