As spring arrives, vibrant festivals across Tuyen Quang are enriched by traditional ethnic sports, which have become a distinctive cultural highlight. These activities not only provide entertainment but also preserve heritage values, reflecting community spirit, cultural identity, and aspirations for harmony among ethnic groups.

In highland spring festivals, tug of war remains a popular activity, attracting large numbers of participants. Despite its simplicity, the game requires strong teamwork and coordination, creating a lively atmosphere while symbolizing collective strength and unity. Meanwhile, stick-pushing showcases a more martial spirit, demanding both physical strength and technique, and helping participants build endurance, discipline, and fair play.

Throwing con is another indispensable activity during Long Tong festivals, carrying symbolic meanings of prosperity and fertility. Colorful fabric balls are tossed through a ring atop a ceremonial pole, adding a graceful and festive touch to the celebration. Other traditional games such as stilt walking, pestle wrestling, spinning tops, and pao throwing continue to be preserved, reflecting the customs and daily life of ethnic groups, including the Tay, Nung, Dao, Mong, and Lo Lo.

Beyond their cultural significance, traditional sports are increasingly contributing to tourism development. Many local festivals have incorporated these activities to attract visitors. Events such as the “Through the Heritage of Hoang Su Phi Terraced Fields” Culture and Tourism Week, along with Gau Tao and Peach Blossom festivals, offer immersive experiences where tourists can engage directly in traditional games like tug of war, stick-pushing, crossbow shooting, and spinning tops.

In the provincial center, the annual boat racing festival on the Lo River, held on the fourth day of the Lunar New Year, also stands out as a major attraction. The lively races, filled with excitement and competition, draw large crowds and help promote the local image.

The preservation and promotion of ethnic sports during the spring season not only safeguards cultural heritage but also opens pathways for sustainable tourism development. With its rich natural landscapes, diverse cultural traditions, and vibrant community life, Tuyen Quang is steadily emerging as an appealing destination for both domestic and international visitors.
