Suoi Thau – A grassland shining in the sunlight

Suoi Thau grassland, home to the H'mong ethnic community, has become an attractive destination on Tuyen Quang’s eco-tourism map. With traditional rammed-earth houses that stay warm in winter and cool in summer, along with H'mong women in vibrant traditional costumes, Suoi Thau reflects the rich cultural identity of the highlands.

Situated on elevated terrain with small natural water sources, the grassland supports both farming and daily life. Locals cultivate upland rice, maize, medicinal herbs, and fruit trees. Particularly striking are the tall china fir trees standing in rows, adding a unique highlight to the majestic natural landscape.

The scenery changes with the seasons, each bringing its own charm. In spring, fields glow with mustard flowers. Summer is lush with young maize and rice. Autumn carries the fragrance of buckwheat blossoms. Especially in October and November, when buckwheat blooms, the grassland resembles a dreamy pink carpet shimmering in the morning mist - a peaceful, poetic scene that enchants visitors.

From Suoi Thau, tourists can admire nearby communes such as Pa Vay Su, Thu Ta, Coc Re, and Ta Nhiu (formerly Xin Man district), and even glimpse the Bac Ha district of the former Lao Cai province on clear days. Small trails winding across the grassland not only serve farming but also create picturesque paths for visitors to explore.

To promote tourism, Pa Vay Su commune is expanding roads and encouraging residents to plant flowers, pears, and plums after harvest seasons. This approach combines economic development with the preservation of natural beauty.
